| our online ORDER door.
|
| Here are some comments from our clients about PCB-UUCP:
|
| PCB-UUCP works! Unlike many things that need playing with periodically,
| this program works on it's own.. leave it alone and let it go.. get the
| mail and send the mail etc.. great program.
|
| Richard Paquette, BBS Caller's Digest Magazine, 609-235-5297
|
|
| I've used PCB-UUCP from Merlin Systems since the beginning of 1993, I
| must confess as a novice to the Internet, this product has allowed me
| and my users learn more about a world that wasn't available to us. Sure
| Ed Hoppers program was out there but with Merlin Systems "goof proof"
| system, anyone can be setup and going in 20 mins. I really believe this
| is the best product on the market. Outstanding support very readble
| documents and and a bug-free package. If anyone wants to increase his/her
| user base then I highly suggest PCB-UUCP.
|
| Richard Dennis, Quadtech BBS, 412-262-4794
|
|
| PCB-UUCP is a most excellent product for those people using PCBoard and
| wishing to get hooked up to the internet, and usenet systems.
|
| Sean Ackley, PRA Group, 510-732-9895
|
|
| I didn't have too much time to look at your software ... But in less than
| an hour it was up and running ... Much much much faster than uuPCB !
|
| Attila Altan, Li'LL BBS, Paris France 33-1-43874368
|
|
| It (PCB-UUCP) allows callers to reply to Internet messages in a much more
| transparent way than uuPCB.
|
| Jack Rickard, Boardwatch Magazine, 303-973-4222
|
| PCBUUCP us a well engineered program. From setup to daily operation the
| program does what it claims to do. The most difficult thing most sysops
| will have to accomplish will be finding a feed and setting up the
| automated mail runs.
|
| Mike Sage, Network Administrator, Sir Fleming College
|
|
| As a Norwegian PCBoard sysop, is not that simple to express your feelings
| in another language, but yes I like PCB-UUCP a lot and so do all my users.
| I'm quite new to InterNet/USENET myself, started with UUCP-PCB from
| Ed Hopper end of 1992, but not long time after I changed to PCB-UUCP,
| which I felt was a better program to manage and understand, with a
| graphical user interface etc.
|
| John Nordbo, EuroNet Information System, 47 4 717170

PCB-UUCP v1.0 NOW SHIPPING!
Merlin Systems is proud to introduce its newest software product,
PCB-UUCP. Finally, a full-featured PCBoard-UUCP gateway has been
created!
PCB-UUCP allows PCBoard BBS software to exchange mail with
UUCP / RFC822 / RFC1036 based systems. Thus allowing PCBoard users
access to mail from the Internet and USENET.
Some of its more outstanding features are:
private e-mail
- mail waiting flag set (optional)
- attached files/automatic uudecode/uuencode (optional)
- seamless replies (You dont have to enter a To: line in the text
of your reply!)
- routing of private mail to and from other systems
- allows the sysop to add 'services' for PCB-UUCP to automatically
handle incoming messages addressed to certain users
- Aliases
newsgroups
- automatically uncompresses & unbatches
- batches & compresses outgoing newsgroups (optionally)
- moderated newsgroups
- read-only newsgroups
- distribution of newsgroups to other systems (even your own
newsgroups)
- 'Areafix' function for allowing your USENET neighbours to
add/delete newsgroups without your assistance
- Archiving of newsgroup messages and/or attached files.
Automatically creates an entry in your PCBoard DIR file listings.
Bitnet mailing lists
- optional hosting of a mailing list
- automatic LISTSERV function (for people subscribing to your
mailing lists)
PCB-UUCP includes install and setup programs that are mouseable and
contains online context-sensitive help. They were designed to be
'goof-proof'. There are also many free third party utilities, report
generators, and even a uuPCB conversion program that will set your
system up in a matter of minutes.
Accompaning this file, there should be ANSI screen shots of the Setup
program entitled SETUP1.ANS, SETUP2.ANS, and SETUP3.ANS.

1 AreaFix is a FidoNet term that is used here to mean the
same thing. Basically, one of your neighbour systems can
drop/add newsgroups, distributed to them by you,
automatically without human intervention. PCB-UUCP
features two such programs. One is an interative online
PCBoard door, and the other can run off of PCB-UUCP as a
mail-agent.
2 By optionally setting an incoming messages Echo Flag, it
is possible to cross-post messages from one network into
another. (ie. USENET <-> FidoNet/QWK/Pcrelay)
3 With PCB-UUCP you can automatically archive incoming
articles based on many criteria and optionally compress
that archive. PCB-UUCP will even allow you to build a
list of periodic postings to archive.
4 The LISTSERV feature enables a system to receive messages
addressed to listserv (a standard among Mailing Lists).
The feature will add/drop users from Mailing Lists that
are sourced locally.
5 This is nessecary to block users from subscribing to
mailling lists that can increase a systems Internet mail
volume dramatically.
6 With uuPCB, the user must enter the destination person's
address in his/her reply. PCB-UUCP handles the original
message's source address and message ID automatically for
replies.
7 'Services' are configurable userids that will
automatically trigger a sysop-configurable program. This
program may then return a message with the appropriate
information.
This allows PCB-UUCP to be expanded infinitely. For
example the service 'SQLQUERY', might be used to call a
program that performs a query on a database based on the
text of the message and returns the requested information.
8 Not including options found in PCBoard.
9 Anyone on the internet can send an email to LISTSERV at
your systems and ask for a list of files from one
conference. They can also ask for that file to be
attached to a return message. This is totaly optional and
configurable.
10 The @SEND command allows a sysop to send an email or
article from the command line. The message being sent is
contained in an ASCII text file.
11 Transport Agents (TA) are programs that actually move the
mail. Waffle's UUCICO is freeware, FSUUCP's UUCICO is
shareware, and both are a UUCP TA.
