  5. | We have started our beta testing cycle for version 1.1 of PCB-UUCP.
  6. | Here are some of the new features that can be made public at this time.

  30. |    I've used PCB-UUCP from Merlin Systems since the beginning of 1993, I
  31. |    must confess as a novice to the Internet, this product has allowed me
  32. |    and my users learn more about a world that wasn't available to us.  Sure
  33. |    Ed Hoppers program was out there but with Merlin Systems "goof proof"
  34. |    system, anyone can be setup and going in 20 mins. I really  believe this
  35. |    is the best product on the market.  Outstanding support very readble
  36. |    documents and and a bug-free package. If anyone wants to increase his/her
  37. |    user base then I highly suggest PCB-UUCP.

  60. |    program does what it claims to do.  The most difficult thing most sysops

  68. |    in another language, but yes I like PCB-UUCP a lot and so do all my users.

  70. |    Ed Hopper end of 1992, but not long time after I changed to PCB-UUCP,

  200.         1    AreaFix is a FidoNet term that is used here to mean the
  201.              same thing.  Basically, one of your neighbour systems can
  202.              drop/add newsgroups, distributed to them by you,
  203.              automatically without human intervention.  PCB-UUCP
  204.              features two such programs.  One is an interative online
  205.              PCBoard door, and the other can run off of PCB-UUCP as a
  206.              mail-agent.

  208.         2    By optionally setting an incoming messages Echo Flag, it
  209.              is possible to cross-post messages from one network into
  210.              another.  (ie. USENET <-> FidoNet/QWK/Pcrelay)
  211.  
  212.         3    With PCB-UUCP you can automatically archive incoming
  213.              articles based on many criteria and optionally compress
  214.              that archive.  PCB-UUCP will even allow you to build a
  215.              list of periodic postings to archive.
  216.  
  217.         4    The LISTSERV feature enables a system to receive messages
  218.              addressed to listserv (a standard among Mailing Lists).
  219.              The feature will add/drop users from Mailing Lists that
  220.              are sourced locally.

  222.         5    This is nessecary to block users from subscribing to
  223.              mailling lists that can increase a systems Internet mail
  224.              volume dramatically.

  226.         6    With uuPCB, the user must enter the destination person's
  227.              address in his/her reply.  PCB-UUCP handles the original
  228.              message's source address and message ID automatically for
  229.              replies.

  231.         7    'Services' are configurable userids that will
  232.              automatically trigger a sysop-configurable program.  This
  233.              program may then return a message with the appropriate
  234.              information.
  235.              This allows PCB-UUCP to be expanded infinitely.  For
  236.              example the service 'SQLQUERY', might be used to call a
  237.              program that performs a query on a database based on the
  238.              text of the message and returns the requested information.

  240.         8    Not including options found in PCBoard.

  242.         9    Anyone on the internet can send an email to LISTSERV at
  243.              your systems and ask for a list of files from one
  244.              conference.  They can also ask for that file to be
  245.              attached to a return message. This is totaly optional and
  246.              configurable.

  248.        10    The @SEND command allows a sysop to send an email or
  249.              article from the command line.  The message being sent is
  250.              contained in an ASCII text file.
  251.  
  252.        11    Transport Agents (TA) are programs that actually move the
  253.              mail. Waffle's UUCICO is freeware, FSUUCP's UUCICO is
  254.              shareware, and both are a UUCP TA.
